A Tough Match

20th June 2019
Our third match of the season was at home to St Andrews. The game started well with both sides playing some nice football and the first 15 minutes was delicately balanced. St Andrews went ahead midway through the half then added two more quick goals to go into half time 3-0 up. The second half began in the same way as the first, with Ely having some good early pressure and going close to scoring on several occasions. Will was excellent throughout the second period with some great covering tackles he kept the strong attack at bay, but eventually they scored a fourth. Keeper Callum pulled off some good stops, the best of which was a penalty save where he stood up bravely to deny the striker. Thomas worked tirelessly on his debut and was a threat throughout. The final score was 5-0 which flattered St Andrews as Ely had plenty of good chances over the whole game but unfortunately it wasn't our day in front of Goal. Man of the Match was Brendan who showed his pace and silky skills against his old school.
