Ely St John's offers a variety of music tuition opportunities on a selection of instruments for example strings, woodwind and brass.
Whole class recorder tuition takes place in Year 3 led by Mrs Johnson. Pupils are offered the opportunity to proceed with formal small group recorder tuition in Year 4, led by a teacher from Cambridgeshire Music.
We also use Cambridgeshire Music to provide small group instrumental tuition lessons for violin, brass, woodwind and cello and we heavily subsidise the cost of both the lessons and instrument hire.
Singing is also very popular at Ely St Johns with a weekly singing assembly for both KS1 and KS2 as well as our school choir which takes place as an after school club and led by Mrs Turner. It is open to Year 4 and 5 children.
Please do contact the office if you wish to find out more about music tuition in school.
In the last few days of the Summer Term our talented musicians and ensembles treated parents and families to a fantastic evening concert. We are very sad to see our wonderful Year 6's leave the orchestra and the choir.
Year 3 and KS1 were lucky to have Eboracum Baroque come and play for us last week. We listened to them play songs from Vivaldi's Four Seasons. This recital including hearing a harpischord, wooden descant recorder and wooden treble recorder as well as hearing a fanfare on a baroque trumpet.
We were all very impressed when one of the pieces required 2 recorders to be played!
Year 3 then completed two workshops, one being a body percussion workshop creating a thunderstorm with our voices and bodies, the other being an art workshop where we created our own collages of the four seasons.
Music thrives at ESJ and we have many talented musicians who learn instruments both in and out of school.
In June, KS2 were lucky to watch and listen to our guitar players who performed a mini concert for us. They even played a couple of Christmas songs which we joined in with!
