Tough End to the Season for ESJ

6th July 2017
In scorching heat, the ESJ football team ended the season with a loss away at Robert Arkenstall. The Haddenham team were a towering bunch, but also possessed silky skills and a brilliant team ethic. However, ESJ stood strong and some stout defending enabled them to hold on until half time at nil-nil. Indeed, they even managed a few breaks of their own, forcing several corners.
At the start of the second half, Ely had a couple of counter-attacks thwarted in the penalty area, but it wasn't long before Haddenham found their stride. Three quick goals put them in control and, with the ESJ players tiring after giving their all, soon added three more.
The game wasn't over yet though. Ely pushed forward and scored two late goals, courtesy of a slaloming solo effort from Charlie and a deft flick from Daniel. Overall this was a brave and hardworking performance against the best team in the league, and the players should take a lot of positives from it.
