Remote Learning 1st - 5th March

Thank you to everyone for your support during this period of remote learning.
We are looking forward to welcoming the children back next week!
Thanks for sending us the writing about plastic; we're pleased the topic is sparking lots of discussion!
We are continuing to look through the remote learning books sent in before half-term. We have been really impressed by what we have seen from our year 2 pupils!
Week beginning 1st March

Whilst your child is working from home, we hope they are able to do the following things:

  • read with you every day
  • practise their handwriting every day
  • learn their spellings every day
  • complete the daily English and a Maths task
  • complete the weekly Science task
  • complete the weekly Curriculum task

This week, we would like to see Math's Activity 5. Please email in photos of this to
Please use this email to get in touch with the year 2 team for any help, support or guidance with any of the remote learning offer.
Literacy: We're going to be writing our own questionnaires and thinking about what we can do about the plastic problem. We're also going to be learning some new suffix words.
A Question a Day: We'd like the children to try writing a question for each image this week.
Spellings: See the attached document for this week's spellings for your child to learn. Little BirdsSpooky Spellings and Karate Cats are fun ways to learn and rehearse spelling, punctuation and grammar.
HandwritingStart this week by checking your child can write the letters y, p, g, j and q on the line correctly and practise these if necessary. Then your child should practise at least one join a day from the handwriting resource (e.g. this week could be er, ep, ei, es, ev).
Class story: The Queen's Nose by Dick King Smith is our next class story. Here are the parts read so far: Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4, Part 5 and Part 6.
ReadingWe hope you've been able to have a look at the free e-books on Oxford Reading Tree. Once you've created a free account, your child will be able to read the books for their book band level. Ely Library are offering a click-and-collect service that many parents have found useful.
Reading Comprehension Task: Please see the task below.
MathsThis week's maths is the final week exploring early division through grouping. Please refer to the plan for activities, guidance and learning videos.
CLIC: We'd like the children to come back knowing their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Please try to ensure your child has had the opportunity to complete a few CLIC and Learn Its challenges so your child's thinking is refreshed for coming back next week. Hit the Button could also be used for recalling number facts.
Science: Attached is a plan, PowerPoint and resources for the first session in our new topic: plants.
Purple MashClick on the '2Dos' icon where your child can work through the tasks that have been set for them which cover aspects of phonics, grammar and number facts. We are responding to all the work handed in so far and comments left for us - thank you everyone!
Curriculum: Attached is the Curriculum Menu with seven activities to choose from. These can be done in any order. Please do send us in photos of your child's learning - we'd love to see photos of completed tasks!
Fun exercisesHere are some Just Dance videos to try for exercise breaks: HappyBest Song EverWaka WakaDynamite and That Power. The children just choose their player and they copy the moves. See also the Daily Walk Activities.
