Year 2 Blog 2018-19

Welcome to the Year 2 blog!
To the right you will find links to our termly topic webs, half-termly homework activities as well as other helpful documents.
Below there are some pictures and information about what the Year 2s have been learning about.
During our India topic the children have learnt about different Mendhi patterns. They designed their own pattern and then got to paint their ideas onto a partner's arm. A messy but fun job!
The children had a great time at our Diwali activity morning. Thank you to any parent helper that spared their morning to support the Year 2s. We enjoyed activities such as dressing up in traditional Indian clothes, making clay diva lamps from designs, colouring rangoli patterns, making Diwali cards to give to friends and family, decorating firework biscuits, creating glittery fireworks pictures, making puppets to tell the story of Rama and Sita and even making our own animations to tell the story! Wow! What a busy and exciting morning!
In RE Year 2 have been thinking about the question 'Who should we thank for the bread that we eat?' To help us understand this we made our own delicious bread by following a recipe. It was very yummy! We then wrote our own recipes for making bread.
We're going on a worm hunt, we're going to find some big ones! Year 2 had a great time exploring the nature garden and allotment to look for worms that we could put into our class worm farm. We found them in dark, damp places and carefully took them back to class to study.
Do you believe in Flanimals? Year 2 do! We loved learning about the different types of Flanimals and then designing and making our own Flanimals and habitats for them to live in.
Feast of Fenland Festival - Our first trip of the year was a great success! The children really enjoyed learning about all the different type of foods that grow in the Fens. We imagined what it would be like to be children working in the fields and helping the farmers look after the crops and learnt some traditional songs. The children got to taste different foods and they had the chance to buy some delicious vegetables grown from our local area.
