Medical Information & Sickness-Related Absence Procedures

We collaborate closely with medical services to support our pupils. The school nurse visits regularly and is happy to discuss concerns with parents. Where appropriate, the school can also make referrals to the community paediatrician.

Temporary Care Plans

If your child needs support at school because of a temporary or permanent health issue, or after an accident or illness, please let us know as soon as you can. You can speak directly with your child's class teacher or contact the school office. We may ask you to complete a temporary care plan for your child initially to ensure they receive the appropriate support.

Emergency Contact Numbers

Please ensure your emergency contact numbers are up to date so we can reach you quickly if needed.

First Aid

The school has several qualified first aiders to handle minor injuries. Parents are notified by email about any accidents and the treatments provided. For more serious incidents, we contact the child's parents immediately.

Medicines
We have procedures for supporting long-term medication, which require written permission and clear dosage instructions. For short courses, please try to schedule medication outside school hours, or arrange to visit the school and administer the medication during the day.

Head Lice

Occasionally, head lice cases occur in school. For helpful tips on how to prevent and treat head lice, you can find more information on the NHS website.

Sickness

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until all signs of illness have gone.

Following sickness or diarrhoea, please keep your child away from school for 48 hours after symptoms have subsided to help us contain the spread of infection.

Please let us know at once if your child has an infectious disease.

Absence

If your child is ill and will not be attending school, please call the office before 9.15 am to let us know. Failure to do so will result in a text being sent to parents of pupils with no known reason for absence.

Please do not rely on email to report pupil absences.

Please also notify us of hospital, dental, or doctor's appointments before the appointment day.
