A young carer is a child who:

·         looks after someone in their family who has a mental or physical illness or a disability or is dependent on drugs or alcohol

·         provides emotional and practical support and takes on tasks that are usually undertaken by an adult

These responsibilities can affect a young carer’s attainment, progress and attendance at school.

At Ely St John’s, we seek to understand the difficulties young carers in our school community face and to support them in overcoming these barriers, so they can continue in their caring roles while also achieving success in school and developing a love of learning. 

Our Young Carers Champions are John Henson (Headteacher) and Kate Lloyd (Assistant Head).
