Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who:
- have ever been eligible for free school meals
- are from families in the armed forces
- are looked-after or adopted children
Since September 2014, all children aged 4 to 7 are eligible for free school meals. Pupil premium funding remains available to pupils whose families receive certain benefits.
The funding targets pupils who need it most and may require additional teaching to meet their needs. Of course, not all children in these groups require additional support, but it enables the school to fund additional teaching time for any pupil who does.
We believe that where possible, children should access quality first teaching from qualified teachers, as well as high-quality interventions from trained teaching assistants.
