Free School Meals & Pupil Premium Eligibility

If you in receipt of any of the following benefits?

  • Income support
  • Income based job seekers allowance
  • Income related employment support allowance
  • Child Tax Credit Award Notice (TC602)
  • Pensions credit award notice (M100)
  • Support under part VI of the immigration and asylum act 1999
  • Universal credit (where take home pay does not exceed £7400)
If you are, the school can claim extra money to help support your child? This is called the Pupil Premium.

The Local Authority have redesigned their online form for families wishing to check their free school meal (FSM) and Pupil Premium eligibility which will enable parents (in most cases) to get an instant result of the outcome of their application.

The form is quick and simple to complete.  Once an application has been submitted for a child, if you do not qualify at that point, the Local Authority will continue to check for future entitlement through that child's school life, informing parents if they become eligible.

If you think you may qualify, please do access the form now at

The Education Welfare Benefits Team are happy to answer any queries and can be contacted on 01223 703200 or ewb.fsm@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

The idea of Free School Meals, can be slightly confused by children in Reception (Foundation),  Year 1 and Year 2 who are all entitled to the Universal Free School Meal.

If you are unsure, then we would encourage you to try the online application.
