Foundation Stage Blog Summer 2023

PSED

This week we have covered the topic ‘My Body and Growing Up’ in our learning activities. We know this is an area of learning that some parents feel unsure how to approach with young children so we have put together some activity ideas that you may like to look at together at home. We hope you find them useful. We would love to see any home learning or activities from half term  - please share a message or photo on Tapestry!

Numberblocks Day!
"1 and another 1 is 2. And another one, makes 3. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, it's time for some number fun. You can count on us, we're the Numberblocks!"

We had great fun today representing our favourite Numberblocks with both our clothes and our problem solving. Bouncing along counting patterns, making number puppets, sharing counting songs, and scoring points in games were just a few of the Numberblocks themed activities that showcased the children's super counting skills and number recognition. Can you spot your favourite number on our human number track?!
Coronation Celebrations

This week the children have been learning about the Coronation of King Charles III. Yesterday the children made Coronation placemats and decorated cupcakes with icing and sprinkles. Today the children made sandwiches and crowns all in preparation for our party this afternoon. The children enjoyed a whole school playtime, followed by food and games in the classrooms. Everyone looked fantastic in their red, white, and blue outfits!
Eggs and Chicks!

The children were very excited last week to find a bird's nest in a bush in the courtyard. They have been checking it frequently to see the birds hatch from an egg and then grow feathers! To keep the chicks safe, some of the children have been making signs to help visitors make safe choices around the nest. We're looking forward to seeing the chicks fledge and fly!

TELL

This half term, everyone in school has been thinking about the different ways in which we keep ourselves and each other safe. We have been talking about ESJ's new ‘TELL’ acronym for all things safeguarding at school. These four key reminders are now on display in every classroom and will be explored through assembly time together in the coming weeks. Mr Henson was very impressed by the thoughtful discussions and ideas shared by  the children in Foundation Stage.
Eid al-Fitr

We finished this week by celebrating Eid al-Fitr which comes at the end of the month of Ramadan. We found out why this is an important festival and learnt about some of the traditions followed by families around the world as they celebrate the arrival of the new moon. The children took part in a a variety of activities including lantern making, and trying some tasty food (rice pudding, dried fruit, and honey).

Patterns

In maths, we have been continuing and creating repeating patterns. The children have discovered that colours are not the only thing we can use to do this and they have made action, sound, and shape patterns to name just a few! Can you spot any repeating patterns around your house?

First Spinney Session of the Summer!

After learning about nests this morning, we spent our afternoon in the Spinney building nests and perches from found materials. We wonder if any birds will use them?!
