Pupils with Special Educational Needs

At Ely St John's we are committed to meeting the educational needs of all our pupils.
The school caters for the needs of all pupils with special educational needs. All teachers plan, set and mark work which is appropriate and relevant to the individual needs of pupils.

The school has adopted the five-staged mode of special educational needs assessment and provision recommended by Cambridgeshire LA. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators are responsible for overseeing assessment and provision.

Pupils with special educational needs are encouraged to become increasingly independent and take responsibility within the school.

We believe that every child has the right to work to the best of their ability which applies as much to more able children as it does to those who have significant difficulties in accessing the curriculum. Through the school's assessment policy we identify more able pupils and plan their curriculum accordingly.

The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator is Mrs Anna McGuinness and she is supported by Mrs Karen Johnson, SEND Teaching Assistant.  You can contact the SENCo on amcguinness@elystjohns.cambs.sch.uk or via the school office.
Both Mrs McGuinness and Mrs Johnson are in school Mondays to Thursdays every week.

The Governor to contact is Mrs Lis Every.
