Summer Learning Resources

Summer Learning Activities

The Summer holidays are time for the children to have a well-deserved rest and lots of fun after a busy year in Reception! However, we know many of you would like to work with your child to revisit some of the learning done this year. To support with this, we have put together some resources for you to use. We recommend little and often at this age, 5 to 10 minutes of an activity is plenty!

Phonics and Reading

The best activity to support reading over the holidays is to share stories together! We recommend you continue to use your child's Twinkl log-in to access the Rhino Readers e-books. If your child is confidently reading their current level, try the next sub-level up (e.g. move from 3b to 3c). This should give you plenty of titles to look at over the break. The activity booklets below can also be used. If your child was in Miss Lloyd's phonics group, we suggest focusing on Levels 2 and 3 and moving to Level 4 if they are confident with these. If they were in Miss Driver's group, take a look at the Levels 3 and 4.
Writing

If your child wants to write, the resources below can be used to support. Having a meaningful reason to write can be very motivating. Some ideas are writing a 'line a day' holiday diary to share when back to school, postcards to friends, or packing lists for holidays. With any writing, please encourage correct letter formation. If your child is developing their pencil control, you may find the list of fine motor activities useful.
Maths

The best way to practise maths over the holiday is to keep it practical and meaningful. There are many activity ideas in the document below. Watching the Numberblocks will also help to reinforce our learning of key concepts and there are Numberblocks activities on the CBeebies website.
