A Brilliant Term of Sport

15th December 2016
During the autumn term, there has been loads of exciting sport going on at ESJ. As well as all our brilliant PE lessons, we've sent children to three different local festivals - Year 5/6 Tag Rugby, Year 2 Playground Games and the Key Stage 2 Cross Country Competition. On top of this, some of our Key Stage 2 children have been taking part in Speed-Stacking tournaments in class, with the fastest times being entered into the local virtual speed stacking league (please click to follow the link). These tournaments are a valuable way of giving children the opportunity to take part in competitive sports.

We also work hard to promote competitive sports within school. Year 4 took part in a football skills competition amongst themselves, whilst Year 5 enjoyed a Strictly-style lindy-hop contest and several tournaments in tag rugby and netball.

This term has also seen great participation in non-competitive sports and lunchtime clubs. The STOMP workshops in September were hugely popular, and the spinney area has developed into a wonderful resource for outdoor and adventurous activities. Our Year 5 PALs provide structured playground games, along with our wonderful mid-day supervisors.

The spring term promises to be just as exciting. We will enjoy more inter-school sports festivals, highly-skilled external coaches working with several year groups, the start of the Year 5/6 football league, and an intra-school virtual athletics tournament. It's going to be busy!
