Fantastic Fives Frustrated by Fordham.

27th June 2019
For the last football league match of the season, nine year 5 boys were called in to battle as the year 6's were enjoying themselves at Caythorpe. Fordham arrived with only 6 available players but it didn't deter them as they took an early lead and held on until half time. In the second half Ely began to believe in themselves and realise that they could play at this level despite conceding again shortly after the break. Reece and Oliver worked tirelessly in defence keeping the excellent Fordham players at bay and keeper Nico made vital saves throughout the match. With three minutes to go Brendan scored for Ely with a scrambled effort to set up a grandstand finale. Despite intense pressure, hitting the post and bar six or seven times Ely couldn't find the all important equaliser and the match finished 2-1. All credit to Fordham for playing the entire game one player short and with no substitutes on a hot afternoon. The year 5 boys should be proud of themselves as they represented ESJ superbly and the experience will stand them in good stead for next years competition. Man of the match was Reece.
